Patagonia Reworks Its Modern Mountain Icon into an Everyday Jacket with Mil-Spec Styling

Retro-X. R1. The Houdini. Patagonia’s archive is full of iconic jackets for use on and off the mountain. But when it comes to modern technical performance, the Nano-Air ranks damn near the peak.

In Gear Patrol‘s original review back in 2014, we asserted, “The Nano-Air represents the future of protective outwear: a mixed bag of breathability, temperature regulation and comfort.”

It was a technical breakthrough in its debut, giving rise to a new category of versatile midlayers for high-output activities, and it continues to set the bar for active insulation more than a decade later.

Turns out, it also doubles as a killer urban jacket.

Like some of its Patagonia siblings, such as the Nano Puff and Synchilla Snap-T, the Nano-Air has long straddled the divide between mountainwear and urban aesthetics. However, a new entry into Patagonia’s catalog puts the pioneering technology squarely into the latter category.

The jacket also has a more causal fit compared to the tailored crop of the original.

The Nano-Air Bomber Jacket takes the same basic premise that made the original so compelling and delivers it in a clean bomber cut inspired by 20th century mil-spec staples. That means it comes with an insulated collar that softly cradles the neck, elastic cuffs and adjustable hem.

Of course, its technical chops remain intact. The jacket uses Patagonia’s stretchy, air-permeable Nano-Air fabric along with 60-g FullRange polyester filling.

At 12.4 ounces, it also remains light enough to disappear into a commuter bag when the temperature rises.

Availability and pricing

The Nano-Air Bomber Jacket is available now as part of Patagonia’s Fall 2026 collection. It comes in four colorways, including “Weather Stone,” “Ink Black,” “Summit Blue” and “Basin Green,” and it costs $259.
