In the grand scheme of EDC bags, the tote is among the most humble of them all. Yet, it is also among the most versatile, and it’s especially useful for running errands around town, on road trips and even during travel.

Perhaps it can garner a bit of the respect it so rightfully deserves via the Prometheus Design Werx CaB-2 Tote, which takes this underrated staple and gives it some serious military upgrades.

The G.O.A.T. of totes?

The average tote is little more than a cloth sack with a pair of handles sewn to it. As classic and versatile as they are, there’s no two ways around it: they’re incredibly basic.

This version turns that concept on its head in several ways. But the most significant is probably the material out of which this one is crafted.

All of them are built out of Cordura nylon, a material favored by the military for its incredibly strong-to-weight ratio, as well as its overall durability and its resistance to rips, tears and punctures.

For reference, militaries around the world utilize Cordura as the base material for uniforms, packs, and even tactical vests.

Depending on which version you choose, the tote is crafted from either 500D or 1000D Cordura, both US-milled and mil-spec. While 1000D is technically thicker and more heavy-duty, both options are far more robust than other materials in the same weight class.

All the bags also have full-wrap webbing reinforcement to make them even tougher than they’d otherwise be.

Totally tactical

While the materials are a clear selling point and a major improvement over similar bags, that’s far from the only upgrade PDW has given these totes.

For instance, while most other versions have just a single handle option, these have two: suitcase-style grab handles and longer shoulder straps, thus making them more convenient overall.

They also all get an array of external pockets which, in conjunction with the generous main compartment, add a bevy of additional organizational options, so you can keep your gear in order, whatever the occasion.

And, as a nice finishing touch, the bags have a 4×4 loop patch panel, so you can customize them with patches of your choice.

They’re also designed to encapsulate standard paper bags and are good for hauling 50+ pounds, so you can just slip your groceries inside, and they retain their structure whether filled or not. Best of all, they pack flat when you don’t need them.
