The North Face just gave its bombproof Basecamp line a subtle but telling upgrade.

Under the new Basecamp Voyager Pro name, the brand has rolled out three bags that feel less expedition-ready and more city-savvy — a cleaner, more premium take on everyday carry for travelers who bounce between terminals, taxis and coworking spaces.

The real hook, though, isn’t the materials or the positioning. It’s the intent: each piece is designed to work on its own or snap together into a modular travel system, hinting at a bigger rethink of how modern EDC actually moves through the world.

The carry-on hauler

The Base Camp Voyager Pro Travel Pack is the biggest and most expensive bag in the new lineup, which even on its own looks like a strong new entry in the highly competitive world of travel backpacks.

The system consists of three distinct pieces that can work independently or combine into a cohesive travel unit.

At the heart of the lineup is the Base Camp Voyager Pro Travel Pack, a 36-liter, carry-on-compatible backpack.

The bag opens clamshell style for easy access and includes a dedicated sleeve for a 16-inch laptop as well as pockets and dividers for keeping everything in its right place.

This main pack features a clamshell opening for easy packing, a padded 16-inch laptop sleeve, a separate shoe compartment, and water-resistant 300D recycled polyester construction with TPU coating.

The pack’s back panel also features a luggage pass-through and a dedicated pocket on the left-hand strap to keep smaller items like a phone easily within reach.

The lightweight daypack

The Base Camp Voyager Pro Lightweight Pack lives up to its name, weighing just over one pound while measuring 16.9” x 10.8” x 3.9” (43 cm x 27.5 cm x 10 cm).

The Base Camp Voyager Pro Lightweight Pack serves as the system’s daypack component.

At the heart of the pack is a padded 16-inch laptop sleeve, along with small pockets for stashing chargers and other accessories. It also includes a front bungee system for toting additional accessories, such as a rain jacket or umbrella.

The Voyager Pro Crossbody measures 7.9” x 10.2” x 3.9” (20 cm x 26 cm x 10 cm) and is really meant to keep smaller personal items close at hand.

Rounding out the trio is the Base Camp Voyager Pro Crossbody. This over-the-shoulder bag offers quick access to essentials like passports, boarding passes, and personal items.

How it works together

Similar to the interconnected bag systems we’ve seen from brands like Eagle Creek and Osprey, the system comes together by lashing either of the two smaller bags to the back of the Voyager Pro Travel pack.

This allows travelers to compress their entire system into one piece for easier maneuvering through airports or train stations.

Pricing and availability

Just because the bags can attach together doesn’t mean owners are forced to tote the entire system on their backs. A dedicated luggage passthrough slot makes it easy to roll it all on top of a rolling suitcase.

The Travel Pack is the most expensive at $270, followed by the Lightweight Pack at $80 and the Crossbody at $75.

All three pieces come in two restrained colorways — Anthracite Grey/TNF Black and New Taupe Green/TNF Black — each reinforcing the collection’s clean, minimalist identity.

At $425 for the full system, the buy-in is real. That’s premium money for travel bags, especially when individual alternatives can cover similar ground for less.

But for travelers who value modularity, buy into The North Face’s design language, and want a unified kit that works better together than apart, the Base Camp Voyager Pro stands out as a thoughtfully engineered system — not just a collection of bags — and one of the more compelling modular travel solutions available right now.
