“Game over.”

Thus was the verdict from Michael Kristy, a.k.a. The Iron Snail, when reviewing the Uniqlo U Crew Neck T-Shirt last year.

Not to be confused with the brand’s Supima Cotton T-Shirt, or anything in the polyester-filled Airsm line, this one features a heavyweight cotton construction and bound collar “inspired by vintage military T-shirt designs,” Uniqlo says.

No qualms with the praise, of course. Both features, along with its bargain price tag, have made the shirt a perennial favorite among the menswear cognoscenti.

But Kristy’s call might have been premature.

Turns out, the Uniqlo U Crew Neck T-Shirt isn’t game over but game on, as the retailer just issued an official sequel to the beloved basic.

Newly launched ahead of summer, the Uniqlo U V-Neck T-Shirt trades rounded crew neck for a pointed neckline, giving the garment a slightly dressier appearance ideal for layering.

It also comes in a handful of unique colors, including an olive green, mustard brown and periwinkle blue that aren’t available on the crew-neck version.

Otherwise, it features the same heavyweight construction and slightly relaxed fit that made its predecessor one of the best budget t-shirts money can buy.
