With over 50 designs to its name, it’s hard to believe that Vosteed is only celebrating its third anniversary. With speed and aplomb, the knifemaking brand has emerged as one of the last few decades’ most prolific and promising brands.

To appropriately celebrate this milestone, the brand launched another impressive addition to its catalog: the Vosteed Raccoon V. This exceptional new release combines one of its best silhouettes with outstanding materials and some signature tech.

It could be the brand’s best premium EDC knife to date.

Cosmic overhaul

Although the brand doesn’t claim it, it’s probably safe to say that the Raccoon is its flagship folder. Not only does it make up four pages worth of products on Vosteed’s site, but it also has numerous variants in handle and blade materials, blade shapes, lock types and so on.

It even has its own mascot, which appears on stickers sent out with the brand’s knives. (Perhaps obviously, it’s a cute raccoon with big-time Guardians of the Galaxy vibes.)

Compared to its siblings, this version blasts off into the stratosphere, and that starts with its exceptional material swaps.

By a wide margin, this Raccoon’s steel — Böhler M390 — is the most high-end the series has seen. It’s also mated to a full-titanium handle. Even the backspacer, thumb studs, pocket clip, lock button and more are solid titanium.

This is also the first titanium Vosteed knife to sport the brand’s signature pivot lock, the Vanchor (probably my current favorite locking mechanism across all EDC knives).

Small changes, big impact

The material and mechanical swaps aren’t the only changes here. For instance, this Raccoon version is slightly smaller than its siblings, measuring 7.59 inches instead of 7.6. While that’s a minimal difference, the blade sees a larger change, shrinking from 3.25 to 3.22.

However, that comes with another significant alteration: the blade is thicker at the spine by 0.5 millimeters, bringing it up to 3.5 from 3.0. That makes it a lot stronger without sacrificing its precision cutting power.

Some other differences include the machining patterns on the handle. This knife has two options: a diamond pattern and a diagonal line pattern, both offering plenty of grip (the choice is mainly related to aesthetics, not functionality).

It’s also worth remembering that this is a special edition. Each of the four knives is limited to 250 individually numbered examples. There’s no indication whether more will be built (but I wouldn’t bet against it just yet).
