We Knife Morphs One of the Most Traditional Folders into a Jaw-Dropping Modern Flipper

Named after James Archibald Stuart-Wortley-Mackenzie, also known as Lord Wharncliffe, the Wharncliffe blade shape dates back well over 200 years. By virtually any measure, that makes it a classic — or at least quite historic.

Designed for precision cuts and controlled slicing, it has often been employed for woodcarving, survival and outdoor use, and even tactical purposes.

However, We Knife’s Fluxor puts a novel, futuristic spin on it, reimagining this iconic blade as an EDC performance knife.

The crux of the Fluxor’s design is the Wharncliffe blade shape. However, its application here differs from its traditional purpose. Instead of a carving or outdoor knife, this is very clearly meant for EDC usage.

However, fret not — the shape actually applies beautifully to everyday carry usage. And the reasoning is twofold.

First, the long edge is ideal for straight cuts, as one does when opening packages — one of the chief uses for an EDC knife in this modern world. Second, the piercing point actually goes hand-in-hand with its long edge, as it allows users to punch through materials to start those long cuts precisely.

It’s also worth noting that We Knife has chosen one of the most popular, well-rounded super steels on the market, M390, for this blade, granting it plenty of versatility, durability and ease of care. (There is also one extremely high-end version of this knife with a mesmerising Fafnir Damasteel blade.)

Sleek slicer

While that pointy end is undoubtedly the first thing most folks care about, the other side is just as crucial. Luckily, it is similarly impressive.

Across all five configurations of this knife, the handle scales are titanium — three with more traditional finishes, one that’s blacked out and one with a flame pattern applied to it. Similarly, they have matching pocket clips.

The knife also has a flipper deployment and a nested liner lock, the former of which allows for speedy action and the latter enables the design to remain cleaner and more minimalist than a knife with a button or crossbar lock.

The beauty and symmetry of the design also bear mentioning. The curvature of the handle mirrors the shape of the blade, and the lines etched into the handle give an almost Art Deco retrofuturistic flair.

Pricing and availability

The We Knife Fluxor is now available on the brand’s site. There are four configurations, ranging from $335 to $350, and one exceptionally high-end version is priced at $820.
