Technical shorts are one of those weird fashion portmanteaus that don’t always work. If the sneaker-boot and the shweater have taught us anything, it’s that mashing up the properties of two distinct garments (in this case, the kind of technical fabric reserved for athletic gear and the cut of a pair of walking shorts) can sometimes produce an odd result. But leave it to geniuses at J.Crew to knock it out of the park with a pair of tech shorts that, in practice, look like any other pair of cotton shorts in your wardrobe.
Except instead of cotton, these shorts use a blend of recycled nylon and polyester that give these shorts moisture-wicking properties and a stretch that cotton just can’t offer. Which means you’ll be able to run to catch a bus in them in the morning, and if you spill beer or wine on them come happy hour, it’ll roll right off.
The shorts come in four colors and sport a generous 10.5-inch inseam, making them slightly longer than the currently preferred length in shorts. But who needs fashion when you have all this function?
During the brand’s flash sale today, you can take 30 percent off the asking price of $69.50, which brings them down to a reasonable $48.65. Which means when you pick up these shorts, you can stock up on other great wardrobe essentials, too.
