Filson goes back to the 1800s, and its famous jacket has been around nearly as long.

Patents for the original Tin Cloth Cruiser were filed in 1914, and the dependable layer has remained a staple of the company’s catalog ever since.

That said, it’s the short version that most people recognize today.

Durable, dependable and popular as ever, the best-selling Short Lined Cruiser Jacket was the go-to choice for Cole Hauser’s character Rip Wheeler in Yellowstone — although the rumor on the street is that the show’s costume department tailored his jacket to sit higher on his torso.

Now the jacket is getting another alteration. And this time around, you can actually buy it.

Layer up

Like the original Short Cruiser, a new version headlining the brand’s fall and winter collection features a water-resistant exterior, which arrives here by way of 11-ounce waxed Shelter Cloth cotton.

But it also boasts a pair of upgrades that Hauser probably wishes were available when filming his winter scenes for the hit Paramount show.

The first of those is is internal insulation — a first-ever for the Short Cruiser — thanks to an additional layer of PrimaLoft Gold.

That means it boasts one of the best warmth-to-weight ratios money can buy. Plus, it retains heat even when wet, unlike traditional down.

Filson also took a page out of Barbour’s playbook for the finer details: the jacket features corduroy lining on both the collar and cuff, bringing extra comfort to the wearer when it’s time to bundle up.
