“Borrowed from the boys” is a relatively well-known concept in fashion, alluding to trends where women incorporate traditionally masculine styles into their own wardrobes — or sometimes outright wear men’s clothing, restyling it to suit their taste.

The inverse — a women’s collection with a style guys can’t help but drool over — is less common.

But that is the case with this new Filson jacket, which is getting a lot of attention from both men and women thanks to its elevated materials and classic design.

Mix it up

If I had an unlimited outerwear budget, this jacket would be at the top of my list — I can’t spot a single flaw. From the corduroy-lined collar to the gorgeous textured leather, this is a solid 10 … but there’s a catch. Right now, it’s a women’s only style, which means if you’re a guy and don’t fit into the women’s size range, you’re SOL.

But if you have no qualms there, there’s a lot to cover here. The new Women’s Suede Leather Cruiser takes the well-known Filson Cruiser (which was patented over 100 years ago) and gives it a modern redesign that blends both classic and new elements.

The most noticeable upgrade is the material: as the name suggests, this reimagined take on the Cruiser uses leather to bring a grounded sense of luxury to the jacket.

The suede exterior isn’t just warm and supple to the touch, although that in and of itself is a major upgrade to this style. The high-quality leather is meant to get better with time, earning a rich patina that will mitigate or even supersede any wear and tear.

This limited-edition jacket also features a cozy, brushed-cotton flannel lining that increases the comfort and makes it easier to layer without getting bunched up.

Four snap-flap pockets add character and utility to the Suede Leather Cruiser — something both men and women can agree is a nonnegotiable with any jacket worth its salt. Classic button closures at the front and cuffs complete the timeless package.

The Women’s Suede Leather Cruiser has only been produced in limited numbers for this season, so once it’s gone, it’s gone. It’s available in sizes XS – 3XL, so if you’re a dude that’s super into this heritage style, you could theoretically fit into the pretty wide size range.

Fair warning to any guys that buy this for themselves: if your partner already steals your hoodies, good luck holding onto this refined take on one of the coolest jackets around.

Availability and pricing

The Women’s Suede Leather Cruiser is available now on Filson’s official website, retailing for $749.
