Buying shampoo is hard, right? You’ve got specific treatment ones — dandruff, lice, etc. — and you’ve got your 3-in-1 shampoo-conditioner-body wash that might as well be dish soap. What’s a tasteful guy who’s willing to invest in his hair to do?
The answer is to buy really, obnoxiously nice shampoo. Let’s not tiptoe, we’re talking $30 for less than 10 ounces. Aesop makes a great one, Paul Mitchell’s Tea Tree is a little cheaper and still nice (though not as nice). My absolute favorite, however, is Davines Oi.
Davines was founded in Parma, Italy, in 1983. It’s a science-minded, environmentally friendly company that’s spent 35 years figuring out how to care for your hair and skin. After coming to terms with becoming a guy who spends $30 on shampoo, I ditched my drum of Dove Men’s Care and replaced it in my shower with the tiny clear bottle of milky liquid. I’m totally converted. It’s got Roucou oil and, while I have no idea what that is, I know that with a tiny dab of this magical stuff my hair smells good, looks good and feels good. A simple upgrade, it makes me just a little bit happier every time I wash my hair. If you’re skeptical (that’s good, you should be), buy the smaller three-ounce travel size and see for yourself.
