Editor’s Note: This article originally published on September 19, 2018. However, at that time PlayStation did not announce which games would come built into the PlayStation Classic. As of October 29, it has. You can find the full list of games at the bottom of this article.
That’s right, the execs at Playstation probably witnessed the success (and hype) of Nintendo’s miniature retro gaming consoles, the NES Classic and SNES Classic and thought: “Heck, that’s a pretty good idea.” That’s why today the company announced the PlayStation Classic, which is a miniature version of its original PlayStation console. (Playstation claims it’s about 45-percent smaller.)
Like Nintendo’s mini consoles, the PlayStation Classic has an HDMI port to easily hook up to your newer TVs, and it comes with a number of classic games (20 to be exact) that are built directly into the console – there’s no need to deal with any physical discs. As to what those pre-built games will exactly be, Playstation has only revealed five of them: Final Fantasy VII, Jumping Flash, Ridge Racer Type 4, Tekken 3 and Wild Arms.
The PlayStation Classic is available for preorder now, at either Best Buy or GameStop, and it costs $100. Each console comes with an HDMI cable, a USB cable to power it (though you’ll need to use your own AC adapter) and two wired controllers, in case you want to play with a friend. You expect the PlayStation Classic to ship on December 3, 2018.
