LG just announced a new pair of wireless earbuds that clean themselves. The LG Tone Free HBS-FN6 have a UV-light sanitizer that's integrated directly into the charging case, so every time you place the earbuds back in the charging case, they get sanitized. It's a welcome and innovative feature given that we're in a pandemic and more germ-conscious than ever.
You might think that having an integrated UV-light sanitizer would have a negative effect on overall battery life, but the LG Tone Free are rated for about 6 hours per earbud, with the case adding another 12 (two full chargers per earbud) for a total of 18 hours. It's not amazing battery life by any means, but it's still about average compared to other wireless earbuds.
As for other features, the LG Tone Free HBS-FN6 have a wireless charging case -- just place the case on any Qi-compatible wireless charging pad. They also come with companion app that lets you adjust the EQ settings and switch to an an ambient sound mode, for when you're commuting or just want to better hear the world around you. There's no active noise-cancellation, however. The earbuds do have optical sensors that automatically play/pause audio every time you place or take out them in your ears, just like AirPods.
The LG Tone Free HBS-FN6 cost $150 and are available now. If you don't care for the UV-light sanitizing case, LG is offering two cheaper models under the same LG Tone Free name. There's the HBS-FN5W, which cost $130 and pretty much all the same features (sans the sanitizing case), and the HBS-FN4, which cost $100 and lack the wireless charging feature as well.
