Sonos is running is a killer promotion on its Playbar and Sub right now. Both normally cost $699, but Sonos is selling each for $150 off. We’ve seen Sonos have these kinds of steep deals on both the Playbar and Sub before, but they typically only come around during the holiday season.
Both are pretty excellent deals, but the caveat is that Playbar and Sub, while excellent, are two of Sonos’s oldest products. The Playbar and Sub were originally launched in 2012 and 2013 respectively, making them seven and eight years old — so both are ripe for an update.
There’s also the fact that Sonos already announced that Sonos S2, its big software update that’ll allow many of its speakers to play higher-quality audio and support more advanced technologies (such as Dolby Atmos), will go live this June. With this announcement, it’s pretty clear that Sonos is going to invest big into the home theater moving forward, fueling speculation that a new high-end soundbar and wireless subwoofer might be in the cards sometime in 2020.
The Playbar and Sub do support the S2 software update, however, even though they are two of the oldest Sonos products to do so. So even if there are updates in the cards, you won’t be left completely in the cold with these.
