There are a lot of great travel watch options at just about every budget. If you're the Silicon Valley-based watch collector group Collective Horology, however, something a bit more special might be called for. Working with high-end independent watchmaker H. Moser & Cie., the collaboration has yielded a travel watch that's one of the brand's sportiest ever — and only Collective members can buy it.
The Moser Pioneer collection already has a sporty feel with 120m of water resistance and a modern, architected-looking case. Nothing says sport watch, however, like a rotating bezel, and this is an unusual feature for the otherwise elegantly oriented brand. It's so uncommon that it made it into the watch's rather elaborate name: the H. Moser & Cie Pioneer Center Seconds Rotating Bezel C.02 for Collective.
The bezel features a 12-hour scale and rotates in both directions. This allows the user to track a second time zone more easily than, say, a relatively complicated GMT watch. The Moser x Collective Pioneer watch has basic functions with three-hand time telling, powered by the brand's in-house HMC 200 automatic movement offering around 72 hours of power reserve. For Moser movements, you can expect a high level of hand finishing, which you can appreciate through a display case back.
With a green dial that mixes the brand's signature smoked fumé treatment with a brushed finish they call griffé as found on the recent Streamliner, the Pioneer case measures a bold-wearing 42.8 mm wide and 10.6 mm thick (minus the height of the sapphire crystal). The hands and indices feature a ceramic-based material called Globolight which incorporates Super-LumiNova to glow in the dark as any good sport watch should.
The H. Moser & Cie Pioneer Center Seconds Rotating Bezel C.02 is naturally limited in production numbers and is available for purchase only to members of Collective Horology for a price of $15,900.
