Most people likely don’t think of a G-Shock as a luxury product, but rather as a tough-as-nails, knockaround watch that you can wear in all sorts of adverse environments without having to worry about breaking it. However, Casio does in fact have a top-of-the-line, “über-G-Shock” of sorts, called the MR-G line, of which the MRG-G2000R-1A is the latest model.
The MRG-G2000R-1A features numerous firsts for G-Shock, including a Dura Soft Fluoro-rubber band connected to the titanium case via L/R-Delta Loc, a technology developed with Nejilaw, a company known for “screws that never come loose.” L/R-Delta Loc uses two nuts that lock together and spin in opposite directions to prevent screws from loosening due to vibration. The titanium watch case, which undergoes a hardening process to make it five times tougher than normal titanium, is further coated in a diamond-like carbon coating for increased abrasion resistance. The MRG-G2000R-1A also features a sapphire crystal with a scratch-resistant inner coating, 200m of water-resistance, a solar-powered movement with automatic date update, airplane mode, worlds timer featuring 39 cities + UTC, a Super Illuminator LED light, daily alarms, full-auto calendar, stopwatch, countdown timer, day-date display and Bluetooth connectivity through the G-Shock Connected app.
Given that this is the flagship model of G-Shock’s luxury line, the MRG-G2000R-1A certainly doesn’t come cheap at $2,800, but for serious G-Shock collectors or folks looking for a feature-packed luxury watch, the investment may well be worth it. The MRG-G2000R-1A will be available in November at select G-Shock retailers including Macy’s, the G-Shock SoHo store in NYC, and gshock.com
