G-Shock has teamed up with Toyota plenty of times before but never like this.

The two Japanese firms began their collaborative history with a series of promotional timepieces in the ‘00s but have leveled up their partnership in recent years. It all changed with the Team Land Cruiser lineup, an annual series of co-branded Mudman and Mudmaster models, among G-Shock’s toughest.

However, the Casio sub-brand has now turned to Toyota’s Gazoo Racing performance division for its first timepiece with “GR” branding. And instead of tapping one of its rugged wristwatches for the task, it has tapped a stylish streetwear staple.

Back in black

Sporting a stealthy black case, dial and band, the resin wristwatch doesn’t look too dissimilar to a regular GA2100 but there are some notable differences. For starters, the G-Shock branding on the dial is replaced with a silver “GR” logo. Also, the red arrow on the day indicator is much wider than usual.

Perhaps affecting legibility, the hour markers and chapter ring are monochromatic against the dial. However, unlike the reverse LCD seen on the murdered-out GA2100-1A1, the GR edition gets a normal LCD layout.

The band gets a slight redesign as well. Branded with “Toyota Gazoo Racing” down the side, the strap gets a simpler, more minimalist appearance by removing the divots towards the case. Likewise, the profile gets two grooves rather than three and the adjustment holes are not recessed like they are on a standard 2100.

Homegrown talent

Despite its recent dominance in the World Rally Championship, the Japanese automaker’s renowned performance division has yet to have a winning driver from its home nation … until now.

After several podiums, Takamoto Katsuta nabbed his first-ever outright WRC victory at Safari Rally Kenya 2026. He not only became Toyota’s first Japanese driver to win but also the first to win a WRC round since 1992 when Kenjiro Shinozuka won in a Mitsubishi.

The GA-2100 debuts with the WRC Forum8 Rally Japan taking place this weekend, but is launched alongside several commemorative pieces that include a poster, ballpoint pen, and towel.

Availability and pricing

Priced at ¥24,200 (~$152), the GA-2100 x Gazoo Racing will be available this weekend at racing venues like Toyota Stadium and Mitsui Outlet Park Okazaki Racing Shop. It’s also expected to land on Rakuten Marketplace.
