If you travel frequently, there are several types of watches that can potentially make your life easier. There’s your standard dual-time zone automatic watch, such as the GMT Master I/II — but good luck getting a new one of those from Rolex. There’s your old $50 G-Shock, which will tell you the time just about anywhere for less than the cost of a decent entrée in Manhattan, but these don’t look the sharpest if you have to wear anything fancier than a t-shirt. Then, there’s the classic mechanical world timer. These are fantastic, as they’ll give you the time in all the world’s time zones simultaneously, but they often cost as much as a car.
English brand Farer’s latest watch aims to change all that. A world timer available in three different iterations — dubbed the Aldrich, the Markham and the Roché — it’s a mechanical traveller’s watch with 24 time zones for under $1,600 ($1,550, to be specific). The Farer World Timer features an incredibly complex dial in one of three colorways housed in a 39mm stainless steel case that measures just 11mm deep, with brushed, polished and micro-blasted finishes. It’s also got a domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment and a bi-directional world time bezel, and it’s powered by the ETA 2893-1 ‘Top Grade’ movement with 48 hours of power reserve.
Multiple leather strap options are available for each dial color, and the watches feature 5-year guarantees. If you find yourself on the road frequently and you’re a fan of mechanical watchmaking, the new World Timer should be on your radar.
