What could make the supremely hip and massively popular 2019 Q Timex even better? If you answered: an automatic movement, then you’ll be pleased with the new M79 watch Timex has just announced. The Q Timex was based on a model from 1979 with an unbeatable Rolex-inspired look, and its “Q” proudly stood for quartz. The new Timex M79 Automatic changes things up in a few ways but most notably with its M-for-mechanical movement.
The new watch’s automatic movement from Miyota is inexpensive but robust considering its cost, and it’ll be visible through a display case back. Key to Timex’s brand image is affordability, and the M79’s price is in line with other automatic Timex watches at under $300.
While the Q Timex was very “Pepsi,” in Rolex terms (its bezel was half-blue, half-red), the M79 is “Batman“-colored, with a black-and-blue, diver-style bezel. It’s water-resistant to 50m with a case just 2mm wider than that of the Q (40mm as opposed to 38mm), but the basic case shape remains the same. The retro bracelet is going to be just as comfortable as it is on the Q, and it looks killer. The Timex M79 is available now directly from the brand for a price of $279.
