Editor’s Note: Watches & Wonders (formerly SIHH) and Baselworld 2020 are canceled but that hasn’t stopped watch brands large and small from debuting their new wares. To stay on top of this year’s best new watch releases, visit our tag page.
Tough, pragmatic features for use by professionals in demanding environments has remained an underlying purpose behind much of Casio G-Shock’s design — even as the famously indestructible watches have become colorful icons of street fashion. Sometimes, though, those different sides of the Japanese brand’s personality coalesce, and the new Street Utility Military series is just that. Indeed, the new models would seem equally appropriate for street wear, on a construction site, or on the wrist of active-duty military personnel.
G-Shock is continuously releasing new designs and colors across its wide range of collections, but it also continues to improve its technology and durability features. In addition to the serious-looking styling of the new watches with dark and muted colors (and some camo pattern here and there), the brand also notes case improvements found on the new DW5610 and GA2000 series models. The square-shaped DW5610 has a “layered bezel structure” with a separately molded base and top layer, and the round GA2000 has the Carbon Core Guard Structure introduced in 2019 — both of which are said to help improve durability.
All models feature the expected G-Shock features such as 200m of water resistance and a suite of digital functionality — but unfortunately not the brand’s Tough Solar light charging capability. Constituting four models in total, the new Street Utility Military comes in two variations of the DW5610 for $110 each, and the two new GA2000 variations each have a price of $130.
