Plenty of dive watch fanatics will be quick to tell you that Certina’s DS Action Diver is the most underrated affordable option out there. I’ll concede that it’s at least the top contender from Switzerland.

Certina itself is the top Swiss sleeper brand, unjustly overshadowed by Swatch Group family members like Omega, Longines and Hamilton. But the newly revamped DS Action Diver, featuring a titanium case and bracelet decorated with a trio of tastefully flashy dials, might just earn the credit it deserves.

The DS Action Diver 38mm Titanium is the epitome of a straightforward, no-nonsense tool watch that offers everything you need at an affordable price. Even the name, which divulges some key attributes, doesn’t mess around.

As advertised, this pragmatic diver has a 38mm-wide by 13mm-tall titanium case, which isn’t new because Certina already nailed it. It’s the same case introduced in steel last year, when the brand’s Extreme Shock Resistance midcase debuted in the Goldilocks case size.

The titanium case is paired with a matching titanium three-link bracelet, secured with a good, old-fashioned folding clasp with diving safety lock. It has quick-release endlinks, a diver extension and is finished in the same scratch-masking vertical brushing as the case.

Flamingos and oranges

The real draw here is the three new color schemes. Each one has a glossy dial plate with brightly colored inlays in the polished metallic-framed hands and hour markers.

There is black accented by flamingo pink, charcoal gray accented by neon teal and royal blue accented by orange.

All three dials are capped with a domed sapphire crystal and framed by a 120-click unidirectional coin-edge titanium bezel. Each bezel is fitted with a ceramic insert color-matched to the dial and etched with a fully graduated 60-minute countdown track.

The bezels even feature a pip with a lume pearl that matches the dial accent color.

Powered up

What really distinguishes the DS Action Diver within its ~$1,000 price tier is the ETA-produced Powermatic 80 automatic movement ticking away inside. It uses a modest 3Hz beat rate to provide a whopping 80-hour power reserve.

There’s no pompous exhibition caseback here, just a titanium screw-on variety decorated with the DS Action Diver turtle logo in relief. Combined with the screw-down crown, it provides 300m water resistance, another price-tier-leading spec.

Availability and pricing

Certina’s new DS Action Diver 38mm Titanium series is available now from Certina for $1,100, which is less than $200 more than the steel version introduced in 2025, but remains a serious bargain.
