G-Shock has been the top name in shock-resistant watches since its first launch back in 1983. For those keeping score, that’s over four decades of durability dominance.

And yet, the brand has hardly taken a breather from its innovation. In fact, the Casio sub-brand is still traveling along the cutting edge to this day.

In fact, there’s proof in one of its latest releases, the G-Shock MTG-B4000BD-1AJF (and its sibling launch, the MTG-B4000B-1AJF).

A mélange of materials

Utilizing groundbreaking technology, G-Shock has compiled and analyzed its forty-three plus years of shock-resistance data to synthesize this watch’s new dual-guard core structure.

The result is a complex, incredibly robust frame crafted from a combination of stainless steel and carbon fiber. But this isn’t standard-faire carbon fiber, either. It’s a laminate built via a three-dimensional process that layers sheet carbon and fiberglass, creating an even more durable, formidable bond.

And yet, that is only one of the marvels of technology to be applied to this watch. Its stainless steel parts, for instance, feature an IP coating and dual polished finishes. And the caseback is crafted with MIM (metal injection molding) technology, an impressive manufacturing process (which has also been used to create Magpul’s cutting-edge EDC knives).

Even the watch’s bracelet is unique, combining stainless steel and carbon fiber-reinforced resin into a stunning, robust synthesis of its constituent parts. And we haven’t even touched on the watch’s feature set yet …

Shockingly robust

As is often the case with G-Shock watches, especially in the higher-end lines, this watch has a huge number of things it can do.

Obviously, the big one is telling time. But it also boasts automatic time correction, radio-controlled connectivity (Multiband6), world time for 300 individual cities and, perhaps most interestingly, a “Find My Phone” feature.

It also boasts Bluetooth connectivity, so it can automatically adjust itself wherever you are, as long as it’s connected to your phone. And there’s a bevy of other controls within the Casio app.

And the cherry on top of the cake might be its movement. This watch has a Tough Solar movement, which means it can be charged with any light source, giving it major points in the convenience category. And since it’s quartz, the brand’s go-to, it’s incredibly accurate, reliable and dependable.

This watch’s dual-core guard structure was designed utilizing literal decades of the brand’s shock resistance data, helping make it even more resilient and tougher than ever before. It also features a unique fusion frame utilizing both carbon fiber and stainless steel. Other tech featured on this watch includes IP coatings, MIM (metal injection molding), carbon fiber-reinforced resin, a Tough Solar movement and more. And that’s to say nothing of its robust feature set.
