Grand Seiko unveiled an impressive collection of novelties at Watches and Wonders 2026, including a sporty new dive watch and an eye-catching platinum dress watch with an intricate pattern engraved across the entire case and dial.
But for my money, the piece that stood out most for pure beauty in a pragmatic, daily-wearing package was the SBGY043 Spring Drive Iwao Blue. It utilizes sleek design language reminiscent of some coveted vintage references from the 1960s and contains an absolutely captivating dial.

The SBGY case is on the smaller side for Grand Seiko, measuring 38.5mm wide and just 10.2mm tall. The gentle curvature of the lugs hugs the wrist, making it feel even smaller in action.
I was immediately drawn to the case’s shape, which is more elliptical than the brand’s notoriously codified case design. It’s reminiscent of the cushion cases produced by Grand Seiko in the 1960s, but only seen in the sparse SBGY series today.
It’s a similar look to an anniversary King Seiko released last year by Seiko, but with more nuance to the case shape, and leveled up with Grand Seiko’s signature Zaratsu polish.
