Seiko enjoys one of the most expansive and dedicated followings of any watchmaker, yet its dressy offerings remain relatively underappreciated.

The elevated Presage Classic Series is overshadowed by its tool watch counterparts in the Prospex and Seiko 5 Sports collections, but it offers the same value and daily-wearing appeal. Two new releases in Seiko’s 145th Anniversary series exemplify what makes the brand’s affordable dress watches so appealing.

The newest additions to the Presage Classic Series fall into two distinct price categories, and both celebrate the Japanese watchmaker’s birthday with “Seiko Blue,” a distinct hue that became synonymous with the brand in the 1960s.

The pricier option features an Arita porcelain dial and debuts a new case design, while the more affordable alternative is an update to the 36mm silk dial Presage Classic introduced in late 2025.

A taste of luxury

Starting from the top, the Presage Classic HCC007 features an Artia porcelain dial with a rich “Seiko Blue” glaze forming a sunburst sector pattern.

This isn’t the first time the traditional Japanese craft has appeared on a Seiko dial, but it is certainly the most elevated execution yet. The intricate shading and deep hues are reminiscent of porcelain dials from Credor, Seiko’s luxury sister brand.

The simple time-only dial layout features applied dash indices, polished leaf hour and minute hands and a needle seconds hand with a crescent-tipped counterbalance. A small 60-minute track appears on a cobalt blue rehaut.

The 40mm stainless steel case debuts a new shape for Seiko, with exaggerated curves on the bezel and lugs to complement the porcelain dial. It comes on an indigo blue pebble grain leather strap with a steel folding clasp.

Along with the ornate dial, a good deal of the price comes from the Caliber 6R51 automatic movement powering this elegant dress watch. It beats at 3Hz, provides a 72-hour power reserve and features a decorated rotor, displayed through a sapphire exhibition caseback.

Silky smooth

Then there’s the Presage Classic HCC004, a beautiful new iteration of what might be the best daily-wearing dress watch $1,000 can buy.

“Seiko Blue” is represented on the alpha hands and applied dash hour markers this time. They sit atop a silvery-white version of Seiko’s radial silk dial texture with no date to disrupt the balance and symmetry.

It is capped with a dual-curve sapphire crystal that accentuates the dial’s radiant pattern. The dial is framed by a fluted steel bezel that has only appeared once before on this Presage Classic model.

The 36mm stainless steel case has a satin-brushed finish and a signed, fluted crown. It comes on a navy blue pebble grain leather strap with a steel folding clasp.

Despite being significantly more affordable, this Presage Classic is powered by the same movement as its more luxurious companion, the Caliber 6R51. It is certainly one of the best automatic movements available in a $1,000 watch.

Availability and pricing

It seems like Seiko is celebrating some anniversary every year, but regardless of the occasion, these are two of the best Presage dress watches the brand has released in a long time. Both offer exceptional value: one for the elegance of its dial, the other for pure wearability.

The porcelain-dial Presage Classic HCC007 will be available in July 2026 for $1,700 and limited to 1,500 pieces, while the silver-dial Presage Classic HCC004 will be available in June 2026 for $1,000 and limited to 2,500 pieces.
