This drop came just in the Knick of time.

In case you missed it, the New York Knicks have made it to the NBA Finals. And people (especially several of our staff members here at Gear Patrol) are pretty excited.

Admittedly, it is a feat to be celebrated. The last time the team appeared in the Finals was back in 1999 and the last time they won it all was way back in 1973. Needless to say, NY-based brands are already finding ways to celebrate.

Now, in honor of the achievement, one of the most coveted sneaker releases in recent months may have just gotten more accessible.

Kith decided to release the Air Max 95 NYC edition in adult sizes after previously only making kids versions last year.

All grown up

Last year, Ronnie Fieg’s Kith partnered with Nike on a New York-inspired variant of the Air Max 95. The only issue is the shoe was only released to the public in kids sizes. Kith did, however, create three dozen adult pairs, but those were exclusive to friends and family members

The new decision comes after the Knicks’ first Finals appearance in 27 years.

Orange and blue are subtly added to the sneaker, which already gets co-branding from both Nike and Kith.

That all changes now that the Knicks have landed a Finals appearance. Kith is finally giving (adult) fans a chance to own a pair, but these will be extremely limited in quantity, made to order and acquired through pre-order raffle allocation.

Knicks kicks

Taking on the iconic Air Max 95 Big Bubble, the “NYC” variant doesn’t completely overhaul the silhouette but uses the team’s colors in subtle ways.

The lace loops and heel Nike emblem are in orange while the Swoosh at the heel and the midsole Air unit are accented in blue above a black sole. The co-branding on the tongue is also given blue and orange touches, while the footbed features the NYC logo.

The main upper colorway coincidentally matches the Spurs, who play the Knicks in the Finals.

Given a suede texture this time around, the main upper design features the shoe’s standard gradient pattern but with alternating Kith and Nike branding. The coloring transitions from light gray up top to black down below. As a complete coincidence, these colors (which were chosen last year) pair perfectly with those of the Knicks’ Finals opponent, the San Antonio Spurs.

Perhaps the most aggressive update is the large, yet discreet, “Kith” branding embossed across the upper on the inner foot.
