Through the end of the month, Nike’s Phassad is under $100 in select models, down from the usual $145.

Currently, two colorways have their prices slashed, but these are great pick-ups headed into the hiking season.

More than a Phassad

When Nike’s outdoor-focused ACG label first dropped in the early ‘00s, the Phassad was completely different from most other hiking shoes on the market. It felt rugged but also futuristic, and without looking totally unorthodox.

The futuristic look owes its inspiration to tent construction.

Scott Portzline was the man behind the design. The Portland native worked for Nike for over a decade, putting his stamp most notably on certain Shox and Air Max models. Later, he took his talents to both Columbia Sportswear and Merrell.

Inspired by tent construction, the Phassad had a flap that covered the laces, strapped down by a traditional buckle system which doubled as a midfoot lockdown. The upper combined a mesh based with synthetic overlays for breathability and durability. It was stylish yet utilitarian.

Despite garnering somewhat of a cult following among outdoor and proto-gorpcore enthusiasts, the sneaker’s original run only lasted a handful of years before getting shelved by Nike indefinitely.

The return

With the rise of town-to-trail style, which coincides with the ACG line’s renaissance as a whole, the Phassad made its return last year, to much acclaim.

Nike has stayed faithful to the design but makes slight tweaks under the hood. The textiles are lighter and more refined, while the midsole foam and grippy outsole benefit from the brand’s current tech. Nevertheless, you still get the Air cushioning underfoot.

The colorways have also become more inspired. Some of the more notable variants have been the retro-inspired Yellow Zest and the Cave Stone Aluminum. But Nike shows no signs of slowing down.

Availability and pricing

The current ACG Phassad sale encompasses a couple of newer iterations for 2026, including the Anthracite Iron Grey ($97) and the Bold Berry ($89), which are both way below the $145 sticker price.

You’ll still have some luck with the Anthracite, as most sizes are still available. However, you should act fast if you’ve been eyeing the Bold Berry, since those are disappearing much quicker.
