One of the Most Iconic Boots Ever Just Reached Its Ruggedized Final Form

The Clarks Wallabee is undoubtedly one of the most iconic chukka boots ever made. Okay, so it’s not technically a chukka (it might be more accurate to call it a modified moccasin), but it’s still in the same general class in terms of style.

Yet, even across its nearly 60-year history and dozens (if not hundreds) of variants, it has never looked quite like the Moncler Trailgrip Clarks Wallabee GTX.

This version takes the legendary boot and turns its capabilities up to 11, all while still maintaining its original spirit.

Give ’em the boot

Moncler has, thankfully, largely maintained the styling of the Clarks Wallabee upper. After all, it’s largely what makes the boot so iconic.

To that end, the upper of this version comes in either soft khaki or beige (and, apparently, a third, unannounced rust-like color) suede, granting them a refined, textured appearance and a soft-to-the-touch feel.

The boot also retains its moccasin-style squared shape and simple lacing system. However, not all is as it may seem …

Those in the know may have already realized this boot has a crucial hint in its name: the GTX at the end. Short for Gore-Tex, it means these uppers are, in fact, given a waterproof membrane that, even in a downpour, will keep your feet dry as a bone.

Yet, for as interesting and rugged as the upper is, the outsole is even more so.

All-terrain titan

Obviously, the upper has at least one significant change from the original Wallabee. That said, a GTX membrane isn’t exactly new for Clarks. The outsole of this edition, however, is another story entirely.

Again, the boot’s name, “Trailgrip,” gives an inkling of what to expect. You see, Trailgrip is already the name of an ongoing Moncler series. And while the upper is all Wallabee, the outsole is Trailgrip through and through.

Like its siblings, this boot gets a thick Vibram outsole complete with a comprehensive all-terrain-capable tread pattern, including a wraparound toe. That addition makes this a far more formidable take on a Wallabee, one that could actually tackle difficult hiking trails while remaining stable and steady.

While this take on the Wallabee is a highlight of Moncler’s forthcoming launches, it’s just one among many. Other upcoming releases include collaborations with Fragment and Rick Owens. Furthermore, the brand is poised to launch its lightest Trailgrip shoe ever.

Point is: there’s a lot to look forward to in Moncler’s immediate future.

Availability and pricing

Pricing and availability have yet to be unveiled for the Moncler Trailgrip Clarks Wallabee GTX. However, if the brand’s other Trailgrip shoes are any indication, this drop should soar above $500 per pair, likely closer to $1,000.
