Sonos’s Best New Affordable Speaker Is on Sale for the First Time

The company’s most entry-level home speaker is cheaper than ever. But only for a short time.

For the next few days, Sonos is running a summer sale on many of its most popular speakers, offering up to 30 percent off.

One of the standouts is the Five, Sonos’s best and most expensive standalone speaker. Normally $599, it’s on sale for $449. And it’s important because Sonos rarely discounts it.

That said, arguably the most notable deal is on the Era 100 SL. It’s one of Sonos’s newest speakers, released less than three months ago, and it’s now on sale for the first time.

First time on sale

The Sonos Era 100 SL is a “Speechless” version of the company’s entry-level smart speaker, the Era 100. It doesn’t have a built-in microphone, so it cannot function as a smart speaker. Basically, you can’t use your voice to play music or ask questions about the weather.

Of course, this drops the price. The Era 100 SL normally costs $189, which is $30 less than the standard Era 100 SL. It’s Sonos’s most affordable powered home speaker.

Aside from responding to voice commands, the Era 100 SL is a speaker that delivers the same sound quality as the Era 100, and it has the same feature set. It supports streaming over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. And it has a USB-C line-in connection, so you can connect it directly to a turntable or a computer.

An affordable stereo pair

Uniquely, the Era 100 SL can be stereo paired with another Era 100 SL or a regular Era 100. This means that if you already have an Era 100 at home, you can buy an Era 100 SL; it’s a more affordable way to create a stereo pair. You only need one speaker to respond to voice commands, after all.

Additionally, two Era 100 SLs can serve as rear-channel speakers in a Sonos soundbar-based home theater system. Again, it’s a more affordable alternative than buying two Era 100s (and you probably don’t need rear channels to support voice commands anyway).

Sale runs through June 26th

Sonos’s summer sale, which includes the Era 100 SL, is currently live and is slated to run through June 26. So you have roughly three days to decide if you want to pounce on the deal.

It’s also worth mentioning that many of Sonos’s other speakers, subwoofers and soundbars are also discounted. This includes the regular Era 100, which is $40 off.
