America Just Might Get the Euro Wagon Influx We’ve Been Clamoring For

Wagon fans in America, especially German wagon fans, may get their wishes granted. Multiple reports suggest several Deutscheland-based carmakers are considering expanding their long-roof offerings here in the States.

Word on the street is that automakers like Audi and BMW are canvassing potential ways to offer more wagons for American buyers after noticing a recent and huge explosion in demand. The renowned interest comes after BMW experienced shockingly profound success with its M5 Touring and overwhelming positive reaction to the recent M3 Touring.

Not only did it make BMW and other German carmakers realize there’s true desire for them. But that there’s also a potentially convincing business case brewing.

BMW may actually send us an M3 Touring and 3 Series Sport Wagon

According to enthusiast site BMWBlog, Munich is at the forefront of the renewed movement. The Bavarian automaker reportedly is serious about sending us the new M3 Touring when it arrives in the coming years, according to a leaked product guide on community site, Bimmerpost.

The supposed decision comes hot off the M5 Touring’s recent sales success here in America. Shortly afterwards, BMW revealed the M3 Touring for Europe and it too was met with positive reception, particularly on this side of the pond.

Because of this two-pronged reaction, BMW’s now reportedly open to selling more wagons in the States. And that supposedly includes non-M models.

The plan is an extension of BMW’s latest Neue Klasse vehicle strategy. So far, Munich’s given us the M Concept Neue Klasse, which gave the world its best preview of the next-gen M3 sedan and its highly-anticipated all-electric sibling.

Spy photographers also reportedly caught a next-gen 3 Series Touring prototype undergoing testing around Europe. So, it’s not just another spicy wagon that’s under consideration either.

Similar sources also indicated a growing interest in once again offering a standard 3 Series wagon in North America.

Audi sees the American wagon potential too

BMW’s rival on Germany’s east side, Audi, also apparently noticed a major uptick in American wagon interest. Audi of America’s senior vice president for product management, Filip Brabec, told Road&Track that even they’re considering offering more wagons in the States.

Audi is at a slightly more advantageous position than BMW as it’s always offered wagons here in the States. Some examples include the last generation A6 allroad and the bonkers RS 6 Avant.

With the next-gen A6 and its allroad wagon variant already on the way, on top of its proven track record with wagons, Audi’s inclined to import even more options.

“Wagons as a body style have been obviously something that we’ve pioneered in a way. In Europe, they’re mega-successful, and we’re certainly, internally, big fans of them,” Brabec told R&T. “We continue to look for opportunities and what other wagons could make sense in the U.S.”

Audi didn’t quite provide any details or hints as to which wagons could cross the pond. But based on past history, Audi used to sell an A4 Avant in addition to the larger A6.

The potential Euro wagon boom we never thought would ever happen

2025 Mercedes-AMG E 53 Hybrid Wagon — Mercedes-Benz is one of the few automakers who consistently sold a wagon here in the States.

Should BMW proceed with offering a non-M 3 Series Sport Wagon once again, Audi will likely follow with an A4 Avant to compete. There’s also Mercedes-Benz, who’s one of the few automakers to consistently offer Americans a wagon in the form of the E-Class Estate.

Mercedes also formerly offered the C-Class Estate for one generation, specifically the W203. If the 3 Series and A4 wagons find their way back to our shores, it may even convince Stuttgart to do the same with the C-Class.

Volvo also reportedly expressed interest in keeping its wagons alive for American buyers. So, if all proceeds as planned, the US may be on track to have the most European wagon offerings it’s ever had.
