In 2023, Citizen first launched its Series 8 880 Mechanical GMT watch. Almost immediately, it became a hit, especially among frequent-flyer watch fanatics.

Since then, a handful of takes on this watch series have emerged. However, the latest in that lineup, the Citizen Series 8 880 GMT Mechanical NB6035-55H, might be the most spectacular of all.

Winter weather watch

When compared to its siblings, this take on the Series 8 880 Mechanical has some significant changes. The most obvious of them is certainly its dial.

Instead of the typical geometric, grid-like pattern, this one sees it swapped for a silver-to-black gradient. But it’s not just the sunburst-like color that makes it special. It also boasts a unique texture.

The dial’s texture is reminiscent of freshly fallen snow, which makes sense, considering the design was crafted to hearken to “the magical glow of a snowy night in the city.” Like snow, it also glints and glistens as it catches the light, offering even more depth and character.

That dial is paired up with golden indices, hands and a gold-lined bezel. Furthermore, the GMT bezel on this watch is two-tone black-and-white. Interestingly, this is the only current Series 8 880 GMT Mechanical model with that particular bezel color combo.

Sporty and spectacular

Thank goodness this watch has an exhibition caseback, as arguably the best part of it wouldn’t otherwise be visible. Inside its dark gray stainless steel case, you’ll find an in-house automatic calibre 9054 movement.

Admittedly, $1,800 might seem pricey for a Citizen if it weren’t for the fact that nearly every piece of this movement is made in-house. Considering the high level of craftsmanship, this watch is downright affordable.

The integrated bracelet makes this a sportier watch than some other GMTs.

That goes double when you consider that this watch is a “true” (or Traveler’s) GMT and not an “office” GMT, as is typically found in the more budget-friendly price range.

The watch also has a sporty integrated bracelet, 50-hour power reserve, anthracite case coating, date window and luminous markers and hand inserts.
