An Underrated Outdoor Brand’s New Backcountry Jacket Utilizes Gore-Tex’s Most Advanced Fabric Yet

Patagonia is a household name, alongside The North Face, Arc’teryx, Salomon and a few other outdoor mainstays.

Unless you’re an outdoor enthusiast, however, you may not know the name Mountain Hardwear. With the recent launch of its most advanced backcountry jacket, that might just change.

The small, California-based brand, which produces high-quality outdoor apparel, accessories, and equipment (and is a subsidiary of Columbia Sportswear company) has quietly released an ultra-technical backcountry ski and snowboard jacket, one that uses the latest advancements in Gore-Tex Pro fabric technology.

Meet the Mythogen Gore-Tex Pro Jacket

The Mythogen Gore-Tex Pro Jacket takes cues from Mountain Hardwear’s alpine and snow lines and blends them with Gore-Tex’s latest iteration of its Pro fabric, resulting in a capable backcountry jacket designed to thrive in the harshest conditions.

Gore-Tex updated its highest-end and most protective Pro fabric with their new PFAS-free ePE membrane and DWR treatment, and the Mythogen Kit is the first product to market to utilize the fabric.

The recycled, 3-layer Gore-Tex Pro ePE is a lightweight and low-bulk yet robust membrane. It is waterproof, breathable and made with recycled materials.

Designed for maximum durability, mobility (and style, of course) the Mythogen Gore-Tex Pro Jacket isn’t just notable for its use of the most advanced waterproof fabric on the market.

Additional standout features include the helmet-compatible hood with three-way adjustment, two water-resistant zippered chest pockets that are configured to work with climbing harnesses and backpacks and underarm venting.

My personal favorite feature, the “Warm Call,” is an insulated phone pocket that protects your smartphone’s battery life in extreme cold.

The center front zipper is two-way and water resistant, the internal powder skirt is removable via zipper and the thumb-activated drawcords tighten the wrist cuffs as you extend your arms, so no snow slips inside.

Finally, the laser-perforated brushed tricot material at the collar increases both breathability and comfort, regulating temperatures between high-output ascents and frigid descents.
