“Reach new heights” is an expression generally used in a metaphorical sense, but in the case of The North Face’s newest release, the phrase could be used in the most literal way possible.

The brand’s recently released Summit Series Advanced Mountain Kit — an innovation-centered 24-piece collection spanning apparel, equipment and footwear — is designed to provide elite athletes with the gear they need to reach conquer new alpine heights in safety and style.

While the kit is entirely new for women, the existing men’s equipment was revamped, with the Summit Series Cloud Down AMK Parka getting some pretty serious upgrades.

New heights of innovation

Since the debut of the Advanced Mountain Kit in 2020, The North Face has continued to build upon most technical kit, with this year’s Summit Series Cloud Down AMK Parka seeing major advancements in material innovation as well as alpine capability.

Improved Cloud Down insulation and offset baffle construction now eliminate cold spots and offer expanded mid-loft versatility. Engineered with exceptional packability in mind, the reduced weight doesn’t sacrifice protection on the coldest, most challenging expeditions.

A brand-new Futurelight electrospun membrane provides non-PFAS waterproof breathability, reinforced with ultralight, durable Spectra and Nanoreflect (a proprietary aluminum-titanium coating that reflects body heat) for unmatched protection and thermoregulation.

The 1000 fill ProDown natural down insulation has been given a hydrophobic finish that allows it to dry faster than traditional down, while an internal hem cinch with riveted cord, an adjustable, climbing helmet-compatible hood and internal, down-filled draft tube at the collar prioritize heat retention.

Extreme capability, and price

While the Cloud Down AMK Parka may look incredibly cozy and squishy, it’s not really meant for the daily commute or casual weekend adventures — and its $1,200 price tag certainly reflects its purpose-oriented design.

The robust feature set, top-tier materials and intended use all explain that lofty figure, but for more casual adventurers who stay below the tree line, this jacket may be, well, a bit much.

Availability and pricing

The Summit Series Cloud Down AMK Parka is part of a comprehensive 12-piece modular layering system, designed for increased versatility and to allow athletes to easily adapt to changing conditions by adding or removing layers, offering precise control in frigid environments.

Athletes interested in exploring the alpine can purchase this advanced parka at The North Face for a cool $1,200.
