Flint and Tinder’s Viral Waxed Canvas Jackets Look Better Than Ever in This Camo Revamp

Flint and Tinder’s Flannel-Lined Waxed Trucker is easily the most popular American-made waxed canvas jacket. The quality is impeccable, the price is very fair and a supporting role in The Last of Us didn’t hurt.

Even after all that success, the viral outerwear, which debuted in 2016, has never looked better than it does in the new Sea Kelp Camo.

The camo revamp is part of a Flint and Tinder capsule collection crafted from an aquatic-inspired, weather-resistant fabric. It also includes the Flannel-Lined Waxed Hudson Jacket, the Waxed Canvas Tote and the Waxed Canvas 6-Panel Hat.

The Flannel-Lined Waxed Trucker has been produced in a myriad of colors and several one-off fabric variations, but this unusual camouflage is the best complement for the ultimate all-purpose jacket.

Sea Kelp Camo features a blend of orange, brown and green with tie-dye-like overlapping and fading. Up close, the seaweed-shaped outlines are visible, but from afar, it resembles an oil painting left out in the rain — in the coolest way possible.

Like vintage Frog Skin or Tiger Stripe camo, it is just as appropriate for wilderness activities as it is in the urban jungle. Flint and Tinder’s Sea Kelp Camo makes for easily the most interesting versions of the Waxed Trucker and Waxed Hudson Jacket.

Scottish aquatic camouflage

Huckberry’s in-house brand produces the entire Waxed Trucker line in Los Angeles, including the new Sea Kelp Camo version. However, unlike the versions that use 7-ounce Martexin waxed sailcloth, produced in New Jersey, the novel camo is made by Halley Stevenson.

Halley Stevenson is a Scottish textile manufacturer that helped innovate waxed canvas garments in the late 1800s, alongside other notable UK brands like Millerain and Barbour.

Flint and Tinder has used the renowned waxed canvas for a while in the Hudson Jacket, York Quilted Jacket, The James Snap Jacket and others.

According to the Scottish mill’s website, Sea Kelp Camo is actually a wholesale version of its P140 Everwax cotton canvas called Vintage Kelp Forest Camo. It is available in nine distinct hues, and Flint and Tinder appears to have chosen the Dark Tan option.

As their titles explain, both the Waxed Trucker and Hudson Jacket are lined with 100-percent polyester flannel. The Trucker’s lining is a gray, black and yellow blanket stripe seen throughout the collection, while the Hudson’s is a gray, black and burnt orange plaid that matches the Sea Kelp Camo.

Availability and price

Flint and Tinder’s Sea Kelp Camo capsule collection is a limited edition. Although the uncommon waxed canvas is readily available from Halley Stevenson, it is unclear whether Huckberry plans to restock any of the items.

Both jackets are selling for their standard prices: $298 for the Flannel-Lined Waxed Trucker and $368 for the Flannel-Lined Waxed Hudson Jacket.

As expected, the Waxed Trucker is selling quickly, with medium and large sizes already sold out by the time of publication.
