When it was introduced in 1969, Zenith’s Defy collection was remarkably ahead of its time.
The faceted octagonal case, featuring a mixture of polished and brushed surfaces and topped with a 14-sided bezel, predates Genta’s genre-defining Royal Oak by a year. And the striped rectangular hour markers exuded the kind of funk that would take over watch design in the 1970s.

Zenith’s Defy Revival, introduced in 2022, meticulously reproduced one of the 1969 designs using original blueprints. It was followed up in 2024 by a reproduction of the 1969 Defy Plongeur, a companion dive watch that debuted at the same time. Now, the comeback is complete with the recreation of the other dial that launched the Defy collection half a century ago.
If the existing Defy Revival dial was progressive for 1969, the new Defy Revival A3643 dial looked back to the design language of the 1960s when it was created. The fumé dial, ruler seconds track and funky indices are replaced with a sleek silver sunburst texture, a simple dash track and understated tiered hour markers.

Where the previous references in the Defy Revival collection are colorful and sporty, the newest addition is monotone and understated. The only pop of color on the otherwise metallic and black dial comes from an orange rectangle set into the seconds hand.
