This Stunningly Minimalist New Adventure Bike Is Unlike Any Other

Cleveland’s most progressive two-wheeled brand revamps its flagship model with unique features geared toward off-road bliss.

As aficionados of the electric motorcycle movement can tell you, it has long lugged the double-sided coin of excitement and skepticism.

Amidst a number of hurdles, however, the light is brightening around a specific sector of the moto space: off-roading.

As emerging brands like Stark and Zero have discovered, electric bikes offer distinct advantages over their gas-powered brethren off the beaten path.

They are not alone, as an ambitious Cleveland-based brand has entered the chat with a bold new trail-ready bike unlike any other. Meet the new Land District ADV.

Cleveland rocks

Launched just a few years ago by Scott Colosimo (who cut his teeth founding retro-styled small-displacement specialists Cleveland Cycle Werks), Land Moto focuses on lightweight, affordable, American-made electric bikes.

The first to emerge from its 65,000-square-foot Cleveland facility was the District, with the Street edition spawning Street Moto and Scrambler spinoffs.

Now comes the most dramatic reinterpretation of the base model, the District ADV, which seeks to retain the original’s appeal while tackling much more technical terrain.

Toward that end, the street-legal moto pairs a minimalist aesthetic (and accompanying weight savings) with robust dual-sport trappings.

Trailed it

The tweaks begin with an upgraded Enduro Evolution drivetrain, which produces more speed and power, highlighted by a whopping 321 ft-lbs of torque.

This figure is not all that surprising for an electric but absolutely dwarfs what gas bikes can do; the new KTM 1390 Super Adventure R’s massive 1,350cc engine offers 107 ft-lbs., for example.

The hyper-efficient motor also boasts regen braking and reverse — particularly handy for an off-road bike — as well as more range. 

Range remains a huge hurdle facing electric motos, but if the big Core 4.8 kWh battery pack gets anywhere close to the claimed 110-mile max, you should have the juice for a respectable off-road adventure, where you typically cover far fewer miles than you might on tarmac.

The ADV also features Land X Spoke tubeless-ready wheels and knobby tires perfect for craggy trails, plus more ground clearance (a full nine inches) and accordant suspension travel: 7.5 inches front and four inches rear. 

The tradeoff here is accessibility, as the bike’s seat height is 36 inches, three inches taller than the classic model — and no doubt challenging to newer and/or shorter riders.

On the upside, handling (and potentially picking up the bike) should be comparatively easy thanks to a feathery ready-to-ride weight of just 250 pounds.

Additional highlights include a beefed-up Gust Buster adventure fairing and windshield, High-Viz lighting and a full-color TFT dash offering ample data and access to four ride modes topped off by Performance, with which you can (theoretically) exceed 70 mph.

For the particularly … particular, a special Land Labs ADV Ascent edition boasts forged-carbon Aeromax bodywork, gold anodized finish LAND X Spoke wheels and a “Super District” tune with a 13% peak torque boost.

That bike goes for $12,700, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves here…

Availability and pricing

The Land District ADV is available for pre-order now for $11,200, with deliveries beginning this spring.
