With both the new year and SHOT Show in full swing, knife brands big and small are flashing their latest and greatest blades.

While we’ve already seen some bangers from US-based brands such as Benchmade and CRKT, they’re hardly alone.

The most stunning (and pricey) of the four Vexron variants distinguishes itself via head-turning Damascus steel.

After all, the king of wallet-friendly beauties, Civivi, is currently hyping a cornucopia of intriguing new arrivals

Even so, an under-the-radar upcoming knife has caught my attention, because the Vexron’s blend of looks, materials and functionality has EDC all-star written all over it.

Let’s talk about Vexron

The appeal starts with the business end, a beefy 2.98-inch drop-point blade that integrates a grip-improving finger choil and spine jimping, plus a full belly capable of tackling all manner of everyday tasks, from box opening to food slicing.

While the three most affordable variants of the knife — all $75ish — feature 14C28N (one of the better budget steels), an extra $25 gets you the lone Damascus blade of the bunch.

Like so many Civivi winners, the Vexron delivers good looks and high functionality without breaking the bank.

One of the ultimate IYKYK materials, Damascus is a Civivi favorite boasting more than 2,000 years of history, an unmistakable rippling finish and a compelling combo edge retention and toughness.

All four editions of the knife get an ergonomically shaped milled handle with an arrow pattern and textured grip.

Made of light yet sturdy G10, the handle comes complete with a reversible tip-up clip made of stainless steel.

All that said, where things get perhaps the most interesting is with regard to deployment, as unlike most knives costing a Franklin or less, the Vexron packs not one, not two, but three different options.

Knife nerds will likely clock a couple of them right off the bat. The most obvious is the sizable rear flipper tab, which allows for the snappiest deployment around the caged ceramic ball bearing.

The second method is also integrated into the blade. Though based on its shape and positioning, the thumb slot may prove even easier to trigger with the middle finger.

Here you can clearly see the three deployment options: rear flipper tab, thumb slot and button lock.

Last but not least is perhaps the most high-end feature, the button lock. With a tap and flick of the wrist, it can easily send out the blade.

That said, its primary purpose is quite the opposite: reversing that motion to safely bring the steel back home using just one hand.

Availability and pricing

The four variants of the Civivi Vexron are available for pre-order now starting at $74.
