Remixes can have one of two results: they either fall flat, or they make you fall in love with the original all over again.

Whether it’s a song, a movie or, in this case, a pair of timeless shoes, sometimes a reinterpretation can reignite the appeal of a pioneering model.

Converse’s new edition of the classic Chuck 70 doesn’t just rewrite the script on a beloved style. Thanks to its unique design, it almost feels like an entirely new shoe.

Stepped-up design

The Chuck 70 Woven Leather builds upon the legacy of the iconic Chuck 70, delivering a luxury-leaning, artisanal aesthetic without the corresponding price tag.

Woven leather is nothing new — in fact, it has a rich history, especially in footwear. The most well-known example of leather weaving is also the most iconic; Italian fashion house Bottega Veneta invented its own signature leather weaving technique, known as Intrecciato.

Italian for “interwoven”, the process isn’t just for looks — it’s structural. While Bottega’s hand-woven boots can retail for $2,200 and upwards, Converse’s woven hightop clocks in at just $105.

The new Chuck 70 Woven Leather utilizes premium leather across two classic colorways — warm tan and black.

While it’s safe to say Converse’s new take on the woven look isn’t hand-crafted, it does evoke a sense of dimension and craftsmanship that suggests a far greater price point than its actual MSRP.

Alongside the new woven upper, the Chuck 70 Woven Leather includes an off-white midsole and toe cap, tonal laces, signature leather Chuck Taylor ankle patch and classic All Star license plate.

The shoe also features Ortholite cushioning for comfortable all-day wear.
