Pro-Ject, the popular Austrian hi-fi company best known for its wide range of audiophile turntables, is off to a hot start in 2026.

In the last few weeks, it has introduced a high-end version of one of its most popular entry-level turntables in the Debut Reference 10. It has also released a pair of headphone amplifiers designed for modern hi-fi setups.

Now, Pro-Ject has unveiled what may just be its most versatile hi-fi component yet.

TV, turntable, desktop and streaming

The Pro-Ject Pre Box S3 is a compact stereo preamplifier that the company describes as an “all-in-one control centre” for your home hi-fi system. It basically handles everything except for the jobs of the power amplifier and the speakers.

The real magic of the Pre Box S3 is its incredible versatility — it can connect your turntable, TV, desktop, CD transport and smartphone (via streaming) in one unified hi-fi system.

That’s right, the Pre Box S3 has a grand total of 13 inputs and outputs for connecting all your digital and analog sources.

It has a built-in moving-magnet phono preamp for connecting your turntable. It has an HDMI eARC input for TV connectivity. It has a USB-C input for connecting to your desktop and other digital sources. It even has a dedicated headphone output for private listening sessions.

For digital sources, the Pre Box S3 has a high-quality DAC (Cirrus Logic CS4344) that supports lossless audio up to 24-bit/192kHz.

The compact box also has built-in Bluetooth 5.0 with aptX HD support. This means you can stream audio (up to 24-bit/96kHz) to the system directly from your smartphone or computer.

The Pro-Ject Pre Box S3 is designed for audio enthusiasts who play music from a wide range of sources and want to listen to them on a single hi-fi system. You just need a power amplifier and a pair of passive speakers, or a set of active or powered speakers.

According to Pro-Ject, the Pre Box S3 “combines audiophile sound quality with extensive connectivity, making it an ideal control centre for modern high-fidelity systems that include turntables, streaming devices and TV.”
