Arcam is a Cambridge-based audio manufacturer with a history dating back to the mid-1970s. It’s best known for its high-performing hi-fi equipment, particularly CD players — in fact, the company holds the distinction of introducing “the UK’s first totally designed and manufactured CD player,” which was released in 1986.

Since 2024, the company has overhauled its high-end Radia range of hi-fi components. Last fall, it introduced three integrated stereo amplifiers that blend audiophile-grade performance with modern aesthetics and new-age features (such as built-in streaming capabilities).

And now, arguably most interestingly, it has introduced a Radia range of loudspeakers optimized to work with its existing amplifiers and hi-fi equipment. It’s the first new loudspeakers the company has released in over a decade.

Meet the Radia range

Arcam’s all-new Radia range of loudspeakers comprises six models, suitable for building either a traditional stereo hi-fi setup or a more immersive home theater system. There are two different bookshelf and floorstanding models, as well as a center channel and a subwoofer.

Each model can work with other-brand electronics, but when paired with Arcam’s SA35 or SA45 streaming amplifiers, it can be fine-tuned via Arcam’s proprietary anechoic EQ (AEQ). According to the brand, the “electronics’ output is automatically optimized to maximize accuracy of each speaker, enhancing sound quality within a straightforward home audio setup.”

Each of the loudspeakers in the Radia range shares a similar aesthetic as well as some acoustic technologies from loudspeakers from Arcam’s sister brand, Revel, which are known for their luxurious (and quite expensive) models.

All five of the passive loudspeakers — the subwoofer excluded — have the same 1-inch DCC aluminum dome tweeter that’s mounted in an Acoustic Lens waveguide. Arcam says this waveguide “improves dispersion and phase alignment, creating a more even sound across the listening area and a stable, well‑defined stereo image.”

Black walnut, yellow accents

For midrange and bass, each Radia loudspeaker features Micro Ceramic Composite (MCC) cone woofers. The R15 (smaller bookshelf), R35 (smaller floorstander) and R35C (center channel) loudspeakers all feature the same 5.25‑inch MCC driver, while the larger R25 (bookshelf) and R45 (floorstanding) speakers pack larger 6.5-inch MCC drivers.

The two floorstanding models, the R35 and R45, both have dedicated
Deep Ceramic Composite (DCC) midrange drivers, though they are slightly different sizes.

Every loudspeaker in Arcam’s Radia range features a walnut cabinet with a black finish, along with subtle yellow accents and magnetically attaching grilles.

With the Radia Series loudspeakers, Arcam claims to bring 50 years of audio expertise to a new category. According to the brand, the range “blends elegant design, precise engineering, and the versatility to perform across a wide variety of audio systems.”
