Arendal Sound introduced its flagship loudspeaker range, the 1528 series, in late 2024. It consists of several bookshelf, standmount, floorstanding and center-channel models — everything needed to build an immersive home theater or traditional hi-fi system. The most expensive models, the 1528 Tower 8 floorstanding speakers, cost $10,900/pair.

Now, the Norwegian loudspeaker specialist has introduced a new loudspeaker range, the 1610 series, positioned just below its flagship 1528 range. Each loudspeaker in the range borrows design elements and acoustic technologies from the flagship range, but costs substantially less.

Arendal Sound claims the new range was created for customers who demand “high-end performance in a design that suits a broader range of rooms, listening distances, and real-world use.”

Loudspeakers for “real-world use”

The 1610 series isn’t as expansive as the 1528 series, as it only consists of four different models: one floorstanding, one bookshelf, one center channel and one slim (designed for on-wall or close-to-wall installation).

The 1610 Tower 8 is a three-way floorstanding loudspeaker designed that, according to the brand, is designed for “full-range performance in a wide variety of rooms.” While the 1610 Bookshelf 8 is a compact three-way loudspeaker that’s a better fit for smaller and medium-sized rooms.

The 1610 Slim 8 (a slimline three-way loudspeaker) and the 1610 Center 8 (a  three-way centre-channel) complete the range.

Flagship DNA, (slightly more) accessible price

The 1610 series borrows DNA and design elements from the flagship 1528 series.

According to the brand, this includes “the RØST Essence architecture, Time-Aligned Design for coherent wave propagation, controlled dispersion through carefully shaped waveguides, and rigid HDF cabinet construction for predictable acoustic behaviour.”

But unlike the 1528 series of loudspeakers, which are more demanding, more powerful and designed for dedicated listening rooms, the 1610 range is more practical and accessible for hi-fi enthusiasts with more traditional living rooms.

“Since we launched 1528, many of our customers have asked us for the same confidence, build quality, and sound philosophy in a more approachable system,” says Jan Ove Lassesen, the founder of Arendal Sound, in the company’s press release.

“With 1610, we’re deliberately moving the reference point, Lassesen continues. “This is high-end sound built for customers who expect real value for their money – not inflated pricing justified by marketing narratives or tradition.”

Price and availability

The 1610 series is still positioned as a high-end loudspeaker range and, naturally, isn’t exactly cheap.

The 1610 Tower 8 and the 1610 Bookshelf 8 costs $7,600/pair and $3,600/pair, respectively. While the 1610 Slim 8 and 1610 Center 8 are priced at $2,800/ea and $2,100/ea. They are available to order now, with delivery expected to begin in early March.

Each loudspeaker is available in two finishes: Basalt (black) and Polar (white).
