How do you follow up on your best-selling running shoe in years?

If you’re Adidas, you keep the Adizero Evo SL updates coming … and coming … and coming.

Little more than a year since the shoe first made its way to market, the brand has already released half a dozen variants, including the winterized Adizero Evo SL ATR.

That’s nothing compared to the next one in the queue.

The Equipment Evo SL is one of half a dozen variants in the rapidly expanding Evo SL family but the first to join Adidas’s roster of so-called Originals.

Dubbed the Equipment Evo SL, the design features a brand-new, hardwearing upper reinforced with ripstop overlays across the midfoot and heel.

The novel material also extends to the tongue for a high-tech, form-fitting redux that adds structural integrity without much in the form of weight.

Interestingly, Adidas decided to drop “Adizero” from the name, suggesting that its designers expect the shoe to run more errands than laps around the track.

It also joins the brand’s roster of so-called Originals, similar to the Samba and Spezial.

Lifestyle shoe or not, the new variant retains the high-performance midsole fashioned out of Lightstrike Pro.

Nonetheless, the Equipment Evo SL retains the fan-favorite midsole of the original. Fashioned out of Lightstrike Pro, it promises super-shoe levels of energy return despite a budget-friendly price tag.

Availability and pricing

The Equipment Evo SL is available now in select overseas markets, carrying a price tag consistent with the original daily trainer.

That hints at a going rate of $150 when it officially debuts in the US later this year.
