You likely know this. But whenever Apple introduces a new iPhone, Mac, or MacBook, it marks the occasion by unveiling a custom default wallpaper to go along with that device. It’s typically an abstract graphic design that looks cool, but mostly means nothing.

Or at least, that’s what you probably thought.

What you likely didn’t know is that Apple hides a secret in each of those custom wallpapers: each one spells out part of the device’s name. It’s one of those things that you probably didn’t think too much about, but once you see it, you’ll wonder how you missed it.

Below, you’ll find some of Apple’s latest releases and the custom wallpapers that they were announced (and shipped) with. Check them out and see if you can decipher what they spell. Some are easy. Some not so much. Answers are in the captions.

iPhone 17 Pro

Two hands each holding a smartphone with glowing abstract line patterns on the screens, one in copper and the other in black.
The iPhone 17 Pro’s wallpaper spells “PRO.” Yea, it’s quite abstract.

MacBook Neo

Light green laptop with colorful abstract wallpaper held on an open hand against a white background.
The MacBook Neo’s wallpaper spells “MAC.” The “A” blends into the “M” and “C.”
Apple

MacBook Air

Silver laptop with thin bezels displaying a blue abstract wave pattern on the screen.
Yep, that spells “AIR.” Try turning your head a little sideways.
Apple

iPad Air

Four slim tablets in silver, white, pink, and beige with a blue abstract design on the front screen.
This is a tough one. But that spells “AIR.”
Apple

iPad mini

Hand holding a small tablet with a colorful purple, pink, and orange abstract design on the screen.
This is maybe the most obvious one. “Mini.”
Apple

iMac

Lavender-colored all-in-one desktop computer with matching stand, white keyboard, and white mouse on a white background.
This is a more straightforward one. “iMac.”
Apple

MacBook Pro

Two black Apple MacBook laptops, one open showing a dark abstract wallpaper and the other closed with the Apple logo visible.
Another weird one. But “Pro” is in there.
Apple

iPhone Air

Silver iPhone with a single rear camera and a front screen featuring a pill-shaped cutout at the top.
Look closely and turn your head to the side. “Air” is in there.
