Few products need an upgrade more than the traditional workout hoodie and gym short, which are slow drying, loose and unstylish. Reigning Champ, a small company based out of the Pacific Northwest that focuses on quality basics, has a new Sea to Sky activewear collection for 2015 that rectifies those problems. Their solution: sharply designed activewear paired with Polartec materials, which have found their way into everything from Vineyard Vines to the Canadian Air Force thanks to their hydrophobic fiber and heat-retention qualities.
But what elevates the Sea to Sky series is design and build quality. Everything in the collection is handmade in Vancouver, Canada, using the same design as Reigning Champ’s other lines; its pieces retain the same urban sensibilities but perform like technical layers.
This design is perfectly in line with a new, useful trend in athleisure: that not all technical layers need to make the wearer look like they’re about to run a triathlon or climb a mountain. It’s taking performance layers beyond the world of functionality and into the world of fashion.
