Last month, Bang & Olufsen introduced a special-edition variant of its insane Beolab 90 floorstanding loudspeakers, which were first introduced a decade ago and now sell for over $200,000/pair.

Dubbed the Beolab 90 “Titan Edition,” it was essentially a stripped-down version of the Beolab 90; its acoustic veils were removed, revealing its 18 drivers and precision-milled aluminum surfaces. It looked incredible.

At the time of its release, the Danish hi-fi company stated it would release four additional special-edition Beolab 90 loudspeakers in “the coming months.” Well, now we officially have two more.

The Phantom Edition and Mirage Edition of the Beolab 90 are the latest offerings to come out of B&O’s Atelier program, which partners with the brand’s master artisans to produce custom versions of its products.

Unlike the Titan Edition (and unlike standard models), however, Bang & Olufsen has included covers that conceal the speakers’ 18 drivers. Although, the top covers can be easily removed to reveal the speaker’s top section, which houses 14 drivers (seven tweeters and seven midrange units).

Of the two, the Mirage Edition is the more visually striking. Its aluminum components are finished in a custom gradient anodization. Paired with iridescent fabric covers, the loudspeaker creates the illusion that its colors constantly change as light reflects off it.

B&O claims that the Mirage Edition is “a visualization of sound itself.”

The Phantom Edition is a blacked-out version of the Beolab 90 with stainless-steel mesh covers, which are semi-transparent so you can see the woofers within. Additionally, its various front, side and rear panels are made of carbon fiber.

Bang & Olufsen claims that the Phantom Edition has “the power of darkness.”

Aside from the fresh aesthetics, both the Mirage Edition and Phantom Edition promise the same acoustics as the Beolab 90. It’s an active loudspeaker system that’s powered by 18 individually amplified drivers (totaling 8,200 watts per speaker) that fire audio in all directions.

Each speaker stands four feet tall and weighs 302 pounds.

Price and availability

Both the Phantom Edition and Mirage Edition were created to celebrate Bang & Olufsen’s 100th anniversary. And both will be produced in incredibly rare qualities — in fact, ten of each (so, two total) models will be made.

As far as price, Bang & Olufsen hasn’t officially disclosed that — although you can expect it to be well north of $211, 800, which is what the company sells the standard models for.

Both of these Atelier Editions are available now through Bang & Olufsen’s stores.
