Just this month, Cambridge Audio introduced its most powerful streaming amplifier ever: the Evo 300. The “just add speakers” component shares the same modern look as the brand’s previous streaming amps, consisting of a beautiful display and a large tactile control knob, but it’s capable of driving larger loudspeakers.

What’s flown a little under the radar is that the British hi-fi maker has also introduced a new color finish for its all-in-one speaker, the Evo One.

Same all-in-one wireless speaker

Released in 2024, the Cambridge Audio Evo One is the brand’s only all-in-one wireless speaker. It essentially looks and works exactly like one of the brand’s streaming amplifiers (including the new Evo 300), but you don’t have to worry about using your own speakers since they’re built in.

Thanks to an HDMI ARC/eARC input, the Evo One can double as a soundbar.

Speaking of speakers, the Evo One has 14 speaker drivers: four one-inch silk dome tweeters, four 2.25-inch aluminum cone midrange drivers and six 2.75-inch long-throw woofers. And they play in all directions (there are two woofers on its back), delivering an incredibly immersive sound.

The system boasts a total of watts of total power. Each of the 14 drivers is powered by its own 50-watt class D amplifier.

Like its streaming amplifiers, the Evo One is also an extremely versatile speaker with a range of both wireless and wired connections.

On the streaming side, it supports AirPlay 2, Google Cast, Tidal Connect, Spotify Connect, Deezer and Qobuz. It’s Roon Ready and supports UPnP.

When streaming over Wi-Fi, the Evo One supports up to 32-bit/192kHz. It can also stream over Bluetooth.

Darker aesthetic

The Evo One has numerous analog inputs, as well, including stereo RCA, digital optical and USB-A. It has a built-in phono preamp (and phono input) to support a turntable with a moving-magnet cartridge.

And like many of today’s amplifiers and all-in-one speakers, the Evo One also has an HDMI ARC/eARC input and thus can double as a soundbar for your TV.

To date, Cambridge Audio has offered the Evo One in one finish: walnut. (That said, this walnut finish is only visible at the top of the speaker, which is exposed, as the sides are all covered in black fabric grilles.)

Now it’s offering the Evo One in a new “Midnight” black finish, for those who prefer a darker, more modern aesthetic.
