Kerr Acoustic is a British hi-fi manufacturer specializing in high-end, beautifully designed (constructed from Baltic birch plywood) loudspeakers. As a point of reference, the brand’s flagship floorstanding models, the K100 mk. 2, go for around $40,000/pair.

Now, the company is introducing its K400, its most compact speakers to date. According to the brand, they’re ideal for “space-restricted audiophiles or professional users looking to expand into multichannel territory.”

The Kerr Acoustic K400 is a two-way standmount loudspeaker that’s essentially a slimmed-down version of the company’s K300 standmount loudspeaker, which go for upwards $8,000/pair.

“[The K400] takes many of the same ingredients and design philosophy that make our K300 so special,” explains designer Jes Kerr. “And presents them in a more compact format that opens them up to users seeking a more compact loudspeaker.”

“Stunningly accurate” sound

The cabinet of the K400 is constructed out of 24mm Baltic birch plywood, mirroring that of the K300. And the driver combination, pairing a Scanspeak mid-bass unit with a true ribbon tweeter, is the same. Although each driver is a little smaller to match the smaller cabinet.

Like all of its loudspeakers, the K400 employs Kerr Acoustic’s proprietary transmission line loading technology. According to the brand, this helps them achieve “exceptionally well-controlled and extended bass alongside a clear, uncolored midrange.”

Aside from being more compact than the brand’s other loudspeakers, the K400 are the first Kerr Acoustic loudspeakers that can be wall- or ceiling mounted. According to the brand, this makes them ideal for Dolby Atmos and other surround installations.

To accommodate such installations, each K400 speaker features four professional-grade M8 mounting points on the rear panel.
