The Technics SL-1200 is a turntable icon. First released in 1972, the direct-drive turntable was a huge hit among DJs and audiophiles for its accurate and instantaneous spinning, robust build quality and signature style.

Over the years, the Japanese hi-fi manufacturer made numerous different models of the SL-1200. And, as of today, the SL-1200G and SL-1210G are two of the most modern incarnations of the series.

Now, Technics is introducing “Master Edition” versions of both turntables, featuring updated tech and an elevated look.

Before going further, it’s important to note that Technics’ SL-1200G and SL-1210G are the same exact turntable — they have the same specs and components — but are different colors.

The Technics SL-1200G is silver, staying true to the aesthetic of the original SL-1200, while the SL-1210G has a black finish. Other than that, they are the same.

Trickle-down tech (and gold accents)

The Technics SL-1200/1210G “Master Edition” represents the “final evolution” in the series, according to the brand.

The main upgrade is that Technics has integrated both the SL-1200 and SL-1210G with its ΔΣ-Drive (Delta Sigma Drive) motor control system, which it had more recently featured in its SL-1200GR2 and SL-1300G turntables.

According to Technics, this motor control system promises to be able to drastically reduce motor vibrations and help improve the turntables’ rotational accuracy.

Additionally, each of these Master Edition turntables has been equipped with a new “Multi-stage Silent” power supply, like the one used in its reference-grade turntable, the $27,000 SL-1000R.

Other than the new motor control system and low-noise power supply, the only other difference with the Master Edition turntables is their gold accents.

The most obvious is the gold S-shaped tonearm, but other elements — including the various Technics logos that appear in several places on the turntable — have been dashed with gold, too.

Price and availability

Technics is only going to sell a limited number of these Master Edition turntables. Specifically, it’s going to sell 1,200 units of the SL-1200G and 1,210 units of the SL-1210G.

As for price, Technics hasn’t yet announced it. It sells the standard version of both turntables for $5,000 … so you can expect the Master Edition models to cost well north of that.

The turntables will go on sale in February 2026. We should know pricing information closer to that date.
