Well, he did it. Confirmed yesterday, Elon Musk acquired Twitter for about $44 million, following up on a previous offer that would have the company go private for $54.20 a share. While the Twitter board initially tried a "poison pill" approach, it also acquiesced to Musk without much fight or fanfare; According to The New York Times, the deal has already been unanimously approved by Twitter's board and — barring any shocking revelations or roadblocks — is likely to close before the end of the year. In a statement, Musk said, "Free speech is the bedrock of a functioning democracy, and Twitter is the digital town square where matters vital to the future of humanity are debated.” The main question remaining now is if Musk is going to maintain Twitter's (albeit flimsy) safeguards against hate speech, misinformation and right-wing propaganda, or lean back into allowing controversial figures like former President Trump back onto the platform. Time (or rather, Twitter) will tell. Musk shenanigans aside, we've got a first look at the reborn New Balance "Made in USA" collection, the city-to-country Aventon Aventure fat-tire e-bike and GiantMouse's latest ACE knife. This is Today in Gear.

Farer's Stanhope II adds new cushion case design.
farer stanhope ii watch

The Farer Stanhope originally debuted back in 2018, and receives a luxe rework for 2022. The 38.5mm case has been rebuilt with a three part construction cushion case design, with a piqué textured off-white central face plate. The numerals and indices are made from polished steel, accented by midnight blue hour batons and subdial. Running on a Sellita SW216-1 Elaborè-grade movement, this Farer model isn't just a piece of eye candy (check out the exhibition window in the back), it's a dressed-up next chapter in the Stanhope series.

A first full look at Teddy Santis' "Made in USA" collection.
new balance sneakers made in usa 990v1
New Balance

After a few teasers on social media a few months ago — especially when it came to the sneakers — we've got a bigger look at Aimé Leon Dore designer Teddy Santis' vision for the New Balance "Made in USA" line. While the release will include plenty of sportswear (specifically basic logo tees, sweats and hoodies), the real star is going to be the sneakers. Santis' has focused on the 990v1, 990v2 and 990v3 (the 990 silhouette celebrates its 40th birthday this year) on top of other models like the 992. While the current New Balance site only shows the "Core" sweats and a preview of the sneakers, there's definitely more to come from Santis' vision of the "Made in USA" line.

Persol's latest frames build on the legacy of the first-ever folding sunglasses.
persol sunglasses

Persol's 714 sunglasses aren't just stylish, it's the series that launched the first-ever foldable shades. The new Persol PO3274S leverages the legacy of the 714 models by maintaining its travel-ready foldable design, but stands apart with a first of its own: it's the first Persol foldable frame to incorporate both acetate and metal. While we love a pair of affordable sunglasses to keep at the ready, this is definitely one model worth splurging for.

The Corta is GiantMouse's latest addition to the ACE lineup.

For those familiar, GiantMouse's ACE series has grown from a small sub-series to a full-on showcase of both the value and the diversity of Jesper Voxnaes and Jens Anso's design abilities. The newly released Corta model is a fang-like flipper that features Böhler M390 steel and takes visual cues from Nordic knife styles (like the puukko silhouette).

Little bit city, a little bit country: The Aventon Aventure fat-tire e-bike.
aventure e bike

Aventon's Aventure ebike is built for city commuting, but endowed with detailing to make it handle going off the beaten path. The curvy silhouette is 6061 Single-Butted aluminum alloy, which hosts a 720Wh battery (with cables and wiring running internally for a cleaner look). The 4 inch fat tires should deliver a stable ride across a variety of terrain, with a backlit LED display giving you a heads up look at how fast your going to get there (not to mention things like battery life, integrated light controls and pedal assist level).
