Well, folks, it looks like the “four door coupe” is one oxymoron that is here to stay. The term is a weird one, but for Audi, the result is positively stunning in the 2012 Audi A7 Sportback 3.0 TFSI, an exercise in what can be done with automotive sheetmetal when the beancounters don’t get a hold of it. Aside from the R8, this may be Audi’s most beautiful recent achievement. We love the clean lines and the lovely sloping roofline. The A7 3.0 TFSI boasts a 300 horsepower V6, bolstered by a supercharger (say it… “I like forced induction.”), allowing the A7 to get to 60 in 5.5 seconds. Just like the A8, the engine is mated to a dual clutch ZF 8-speed automatic with manumatic shifting. And though the car is fleet of foot and well-balanced, it’s geared more towards luxury driving than balls-out handling. The interior gets as much attention as the exterior. Audi never disappoints in this area, and the A7 is no exception. Aluminum and wood trim abound, along with clear readouts and an overall luxurious but crisp layout. The best part? You can tell your friends you just dropped 50 large on a hatchback.
