Back in November, Jeep kicked off a Twelve 4 Twelve initiative to ring in its 85th anniversary. As part of the celebrations, a new special edition Wrangler would be released on the 12th day of every month for a full calendar year.

Having started with the powerful Moab 392, the brand subsequently catered to fans of old-school style through an Arctic White top and accents. If you’ve missed it, Jeep has also been teasing the releases through themed duck icons on the associated landing page.

In any case, true to its feathered counterpart, the third release in the Wrangler Twelve 4 Twelve program is packed with plaid style. While it’s a subtle treatment, it’s an impactful option if you’re looking for something retro.

A plaid celebration

It’s called the Wrangler 85th Anniversary special edition, and it’s being billed as a “bold nod to Jeep Americana heritage.” Regardless of any actual ties to the brand’s past releases, the plaid is a welcome sight amidst today’s otherwise drab interior color palettes.

Especially because it’s a pretty comprehensive cabin overhaul.

As  part of the package, Jeep includes plaid seat inserts, an 85th Anniversary seat tag, corresponding plaid accents on the instrument panel and mid bolster, as well as an 85th Anniversary shifter medallion and cupholder plaque. Buyers even get a set of rugged Berber floor and cargo mats.

Moreover, while the plaid option is a highlight of the 85th Anniversary Wrangler, it’s far from the package’s only visual upgrade.

Around the outside, Jeep is equipping the special edition with exclusive Steel Oxide-painted wheels, bronze tow hooks, along with a set of Blue Agave 85th anniversary badges and decals.

An overlap of missions

While past Twelve 4 Twelve releases have been exclusive to the Wrangler platform, the 85th Anniversary special edition breaks from the trend.

That’s because Jeep is also offering the package as an option for the Gladiator pickup truck. Interestingly enough, this means that it also falls in line as part of the brand’s Convoy initiative.

Alongside its 85th Anniversary celebrations, then, Jeep has also been releasing a series of themed Gladiator releases. Beyond heritage-inspired models like a green Willys Buzz edition, this means that the brand has added Reign body colors and Shadow Ops upgrade options.

In any case, if you’re having trouble keeping track of all the special editions, don’t sweat it — Jeep has far more appearance packages than it does models at this point. Though it can all be a bit confusing, there’s no denying that the brand knows how to throw a proper celebration and keep people talking.

Pricing and availability

If you’re interested in picking up the 85th Anniversary special edition, you can head to the Jeep Twelve 4 Twelve website to learn more.

Whether you opt for Wrangler or Gladiator, the package makes for an affordable way to give your Jeep some retro style.

In the case of the former, MSRP is only $710 more (a total of $46,300) than a Sport S model equipped with the Convenience group and Alpine audio. While more expensive relative to its Wrangler counterpart at $1,005, the latter makes for an even cheaper option with a starting MSRP of $45,820.
