If you have a gas-powered Porsche Macan on your radar, you better act quick. The crunch time to land the current generation in your driveway is arriving. As previously reported, Porsche is preparing to phase out today’s model by the end of this year.

But according to our pals at Motor1, Zuffenhausen’s finest is actually ramping up production of the current Macan, despite its end being near. And not because it’s particularly selling out.

Adapting to the market

Believe it or not, the current Porsche Macan is still in its first generation, which has been with us for over a decade. Launched in 2014, the Macan immediately jumped to being the company’s most successful model ever and it remains its best-seller.

Because of this, Porsche has done little to change the formula. Why fix what ain’t broke?

However, the need to develop a newer, fresher model inevitably arrived. So, Porsche bet on electrification for the Macan’s next chapter in an equal effort to jump on the trend and help pioneer the movement.

Despite being an oldie, the current internal combustion powered Macan is still a goodie and a testament to its platform’s timelessness.

As a result, Porsche planned the next Macan to be all-electric with no prospect of internal combustion propulsion of any kind, including gas-electric hybridization.

However, after the market spoke and showed that EVs weren’t in as high demand as originally thought, Porsche and VW AG both found themselves in a pretty big financial pickle. The two companies are struggling to make returns on their investments.

As a result, Porsche had to make some last-minute and urgent shifts to essentially cancel its all-electric plans and still leverage internal combustion power.

Making sure there’s enough to go around

Because the current internal combustion Macan is still so high in demand, Porsche’s ramping up production for extra inventory before phasing it out.

Because Porsche essentially put all its eggs in the electrification basket, but is now being forced to backtrack, the company is clearly in need of time to adapt. As a result, it’s been forced to delay the next-gen Macan to reengineer its plans to now offer both an electrified and gas-powered model.

To help buy some time, Zuffenhausen is boosting production of its current Macan. This is to make sure there’s enough inventory to keep up with the demand as the company reworks and phases in the next-gen model.

While there will be a hike in Macan inventory in the coming months, the chance to grab one is currently coming to a close. Porsche is hoping that maxing out production capacity for the old Macan will last the company through 2027.

Availability and pricing

The current gas-only Porsche Macan will remain available at dealers up through 2027, depending on leftover availability.
